A 13-year-old from Cape Breton, Jake Campbell, managed to raise $21,000 for Make-A-Wish Canada through a hotdog stand and generous donations. With contributions from No Frills and Wonder Bread, Jake and his family sold hotdogs over the weekend, surpassing their previous year’s fundraising total of $3,000. Setting up their stand in the Russell Hawkins parking lot in Sydney, N.S., they not only earned money from hotdog sales but also received additional cash donations from supportive community members.
Hollie Quick, a senior development officer at Make-A-Wish Canada, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from the community in Sydney. Last year, when Jake fundraised, he received an award in memory of a wish child who had passed away. Inspired by this recognition, Jake aimed to double his fundraising efforts this year and successfully achieved his goal.
The funds raised by the Campbell family will now be used to fulfill the wishes of 81 children in Nova Scotia. Make-A-Wish Canada aims to grant a variety of wishes, from creating accessible spaces for outdoor enjoyment to organizing family trips. Jake emphasized that supporting the foundation is crucial as it not only fulfills children’s wishes but also provides comfort and joy to their families.
Looking ahead, Jake expressed his excitement for future fundraising endeavors and remains dedicated to helping Make-A-Wish Canada make a difference in the lives of children and families in need.
