O2 has officially announced that many of its customers are receiving a complimentary rapid upgrade. This upgrade is introducing faster 5G+ services to users throughout the UK, providing improved mobile connectivity and significantly quicker download speeds. O2 guarantees a 50% increase in performance compared to the previous 4G network.
Aside from speed and reliability enhancements, users can also expect extended battery life as devices consume less power by not needing to connect to both 4G and 5G networks simultaneously, unlike traditional 5G networks which rely on 4G support.
The upgrade is now being rolled out to customers who have a 5G+ compatible device and SIM card, with over 700 towns and cities set to benefit from the activation of this service.
Christian Hindennach, the Chief Commercial Officer at Virgin Media O2, highlighted, “Our 5G+ service is now accessible to millions of customers across the UK, uniquely available to all O2 customers on every Plan, unlike competitors. This enhancement improves performance in high-traffic areas, including large venues, benefiting residents and visitors. It demonstrates Virgin Media O2’s dedication to enhancing network services and ensuring a more dependable user experience. We are investing £2 million daily to prepare our customers for upcoming mobile innovations.”
