A woman working as a nurse was sentenced to two years in prison after being found guilty of engaging in sexual activity with her 15-year-old stepson. The incident occurred when the husband of Alexis Von Yates, 34, walked in on her and the teenage stepson in a compromising situation on the living room couch in July of the previous year.
During the sentencing hearing, the boy’s mother expressed her disgust at Von Yates’ behavior, labeling her as an “incestuous paedophile” and a “coward.” She revealed that her son is currently undergoing therapy and lamented the lack of support from the boy’s father in dealing with the aftermath of the incident.
Despite the trauma inflicted on her son, the mother emphasized that he still has a bright future ahead filled with love and hope. She criticized Von Yates for showing no remorse or accountability for her actions, stating that the nurse had manipulated and abused a child.
Von Yates chose to remain silent when given the opportunity to address the court. In addition to her two-year prison sentence, she was also placed under two years of community control, 10 years of sex offender probation, and mandated to complete 200 hours of community service while covering court costs and fines.
According to court documents, Von Yates had put her own children to bed before spending time with her stepson on the couch, where they engaged in various activities including smoking a THC vape, playing video games, and watching movies. The documents detailed how Von Yates initiated sexual advances towards the boy, leading to the discovery of the inappropriate encounter by the boy’s father.
Von Yates was arrested in November and had her nursing license revoked due to her lack of judgment and moral character. The Florida Department of Health issued an emergency suspension on the grounds that she was unfit to continue working as a registered nurse.
