Oleksandr Usyk has declined a potential match with up-and-coming British talent Moses Itauma. The Ukrainian secured his second undisputed heavyweight champion title in July by defeating Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium in front of a 90,000-strong audience. Despite turning 39 in January, Usyk previously stated he only has two more fights left before retiring. However, he has now expressed his commitment to continue boxing until the age of 41, aiming to establish a Sports Academy thereafter.
As Usyk prepares for his return to the ring next year, potential opponents include Joseph Parker and Tyson Fury, who is planning a comeback. Although Itauma was considered a contender, Usyk has dismissed the possibility of facing him. The 38-year-old champion is uncertain about his next opponent but assured that negotiations are ongoing and he will not be fighting Itauma.
Itauma, the undefeated British boxer, recently rejected an IBF final eliminator fight against Frank Sanchez, opting for a different route towards a world title match rather than facing Usyk. Despite the hype surrounding a potential matchup between Itauma and Usyk, the young fighter believes it’s a win-win situation regardless of the outcome.
