“Mercedes EQS Completes 748-Mile Trip on Single Charge with Solid-State Battery”

An extraordinary feat was achieved by a Mercedes EQS utilizing a cutting-edge solid-state battery, completing a remarkable 748-mile voyage on a single charge. Originating from Stuttgart, Germany, the car traveled all the way to Malmo, Sweden, without the need for a battery recharge, concluding the trip with 85 miles of remaining range.

The vehicle was powered by a solid-state battery known for its higher energy density, leading to enhanced range capabilities and quicker charging durations. Furthermore, the elimination of the flammable liquid electrolyte in this type of battery improves safety, while its longevity surpasses that of traditional lithium-ion batteries.

The standard EQS model offers a choice between a 96kWh or a 118kWh lithium-ion battery pack, providing claimed electric ranges of 409 miles and 481 miles, respectively.

Markus Schäfer, the chief technology officer of Mercedes-Benz Group, expressed, “The solid-state battery represents a significant advancement for electric vehicles. The successful long-distance journey of the EQS demonstrates that this technology is not only effective in controlled environments but also in real-world scenarios.

“Our objective is to introduce innovations like this into mass production by the end of the decade, providing our customers with a new standard of range and convenience.”

Mercedes plans to integrate solid-state battery technology into its vehicles by the end of the decade, facilitating the transition to electric cars for potential buyers.
