One of the leading jockeys of the Flat racing season has been hospitalized following a neck injury sustained in a motorcycle accident.
Clifford Lee, a 29-year-old stable jockey working with Karl Burke, has had a successful season, securing 94 wins, including his first Group 1 victory aboard Venetian Sun in the Prix Morny. Despite his recent suspension, he was on track to achieve 100 wins for the first time before the incident occurred during his holiday.
Burke confirmed the accident, stating that Lee, who was in Scotland at the time, had a fall while riding a cross-country motorbike at a low speed. Lee, originally from south-east London with no racing background, has risen to prominence in British racing since joining Burke in Yorkshire.
Known for his exceptional pace judgment, Lee showcased his skills with consecutive wins in the Cambridgeshire, a highly competitive handicap race, riding Boiling Point and Liberty Lane, both trained by Burke.
Supportive messages have poured in for Lee, who is currently receiving treatment in a hospital in Edinburgh. Well-wishers have expressed hopes for his swift recovery and speculated on his promising future in the sport.
