Putin Propagandist Exposes Top-Secret Military Base

Vladimir Putin faced embarrassment when one of his key propagandists inadvertently disclosed a top-secret military location by revealing a toilet sign. The blunder was made by Vladimir Solovyov, a chief TV propagandist, who disclosed the whereabouts of Russia’s elite drone unit, leading experts to pinpoint the secret site. Solovyov’s report, which failed to hide a toilet sign, exposed the location of the Rubicon HQ at the Patriot Exhibition Centre near Moscow, causing a major embarrassment to Putin amid his ongoing conflict with Ukraine.

This exposed site has already been the target of Ukrainian drone attacks and may face further threats due to this revealing mistake. Despite being a well-paid state TV propagandist for Putin, Solovyov carelessly overlooked masking the toilet signs in a report about Rubicon.

Open-source intelligence (OSINT) researchers were able to identify the head of Rubicon, known as a “centre for advanced unmanned technologies,” along with its leader, Colonel Sergei Budnikov.

A local report on Radio Liberty detailed how the toilet sign divulged the secret location, stating, “Solovyov’s editors failed to blur the sign above the restroom entrance, which has a unique design, and the light board above it displaying ‘restroom’ in Russian and English, visible in publicly available videos from Patriot.”

The exposure of Rubicon is not only a setback for Putin but also for his defense minister Andrei Belousov, who oversaw the center’s development. Rubicon is essential for drone development and testing, operator training, and deployment on the front lines.

Reportedly, Rubicon played a significant role in the success of operations in the Kursk Region and the advancements in the Donetsk region. The center’s capabilities in isolating battlefield areas, targeting enemy UAV operators, and disrupting logistics have been acknowledged by Ukrainian military and Western experts.

By analyzing open-source images from a spring exhibition, researchers identified the location with distinctive toilet signs, and previous footage showed Ukraine’s attempted attack in that vicinity.

Solovyov also drew criticism for making threatening remarks towards British RAF pilots and spreading false information about France potentially sending nuclear missiles to Poland. This comes as Western warplanes were deployed to protect Poland following Russian drone incursions into its airspace.
