“Starmer Slams Trump’s ‘Absurd’ Sharia Law Comments”

Keir Starmer has criticized Donald Trump’s recent comments on London Mayor Sadiq Khan, calling them “absurd.” The US President made disparaging remarks about Mr. Khan, suggesting that London’s leaders were pushing for Sharia law, a claim that Mr. Khan vehemently denied, accusing Trump of racism and Islamophobia.

In response to ITV London’s inquiry about Trump’s attack, Starmer defended Mayor Khan, referring to him as a “decent individual.” Trump’s criticism of Mr. Khan occurred at the UN General Assembly following his recent state visit to the UK.

Starmer remarked, “While there are areas of agreement between the President and me, this is not one of them. The notion of implementing Sharia law is baseless. Sadiq Khan is a competent leader actively tackling serious crimes. While I appreciate our positive interactions and recent state visit, I strongly disagree with Trump’s Sharia law comments.”

When asked if he shared Mr. Khan’s views on Trump being sexist, racist, and Islamophobic, Starmer declined to engage in a verbal confrontation. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between the US and the UK while expressing pride in London and its mayor for their commendable work.

During a lengthy speech, Trump criticized London’s mayor, stating that the city had deteriorated under his leadership. In response, Mr. Khan questioned Trump’s fixation on him, highlighting the diversity and success of London. Khan also accused Trump of racism, sexism, misogyny, and Islamophobia.
