“UK Braces for Snow: Major Cities to See Heavy Flurries”

The most recent weather projections indicate that several towns and cities in the UK may soon be covered in snow. According to the GFS model maps, a wintry weather front is expected to sweep across the country starting on December 17, with Northern Ireland likely to experience intense flurries first, followed by Western Scotland, Wales, and the south-west of England.

By the early hours of December 18, the maps suggest that snowfall will be heaviest in the north-west of England, particularly affecting Blackpool, and across a large portion of Scotland, with Glasgow facing significant snowfall. Subsequently, the snow is projected to move eastward, reaching Newcastle and the north-east of England by 6am, with Dundee and Edinburgh also likely to see snowfall.

A second weather front is anticipated to bring more snow and rain on the afternoon of December 18, affecting Manchester, Liverpool, and Blackpool, as well as parts of Wales and southern Scotland. Snow coverage maps for December 19 indicate widespread snowfall in Northern Ireland, including Belfast, and in Scotland, impacting Aberdeen, Dundee, Glasgow, and Edinburgh.

In Wales, only central and northern regions are expected to see snow, while in England, areas north of Stoke-on-Trent could also have snow on the ground. The Met Office has issued warnings of wintry conditions for this month, forecasting intermittent rain, potential impacts due to wet conditions, and occasional strong winds, with a slight cooling trend towards the end of the period leading to wintry hazards in northern parts of the UK.

BBC Weather also suggests the possibility of snow in its forecast for December 15 to 21, indicating unsettled weather conditions with low pressure systems near Iceland and Greenland. While milder temperatures are expected, the forecast also predicts wet and windy weather with occasional chilly periods, primarily affecting higher elevations in northern UK regions, particularly Scotland.
