Households in the UK relying on Freeview for their TV content are advised to check their equipment and consider performing a quick retune due to recent channel changes. Freeview has confirmed several updates, including channel name changes and repositioning in the TV guide. While not a major overhaul, a quick retune is recommended to ensure all channels are up to date.
Freeview announced: “On May 20, 2026, some broadcasters will be altering their channels.
“To update your TV and keep your channels and TV Guide current, you will need to retune.”
So, what changes can viewers expect? What’s new and what’s moving?
Two channels have undergone name changes. Hobbycraft TV on channel 97 is now known as Shop Unlimited, and Great! Romance Mix on channel 61 is replaced by Great! TV +1.
Additionally, channel numbers are being adjusted. Great! Movies is relocating from channel 61 to channel 62, with Great! TV +1 moving to channel 61.
Freeview stated: “Channels are continuously evolving on Freeview as individual providers make decisions to relocate, add, or remove channels.
“Freeview remains committed to offering diverse and engaging content for audiences.”
If the updates are not visible on your TV, manual retuning of your device may be necessary.
