Some individuals in the UK may receive additional funds from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) in the current month. If the temperature falls to a specified level, they might qualify for Cold Weather Payments, each valued at £25, awarded when the temperature remains at or below 0°C for seven consecutive days. However, only specific demographics are eligible for this financial support.
In a recent post on the social media platform X, the DWP highlighted that residents in England, Wales, or Northern Ireland could be entitled to Cold Weather Payments, automatically receiving the payment in December 2025 if eligible.
According to information provided on GOV.UK, individuals receiving certain benefits or Support for Mortgage Interest may be eligible for Cold Weather Payments. If deemed eligible, the payments are automatic, and there is no need for an application process.
It is crucial to note that individuals do not need to apply for Cold Weather Payments. Those who qualify will receive £25 for each seven-day period of extremely cold weather between November 1, 2025, and March 31, 2026.
If individuals are receiving Income Support, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA), or income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), they should inform Jobcentre Plus to potentially qualify for Cold Weather Payments. Failure to do so may result in not receiving the benefit automatically.
Following each period of very cold weather, eligible individuals should expect to receive a payment within 14 working days, deposited into the same bank or building society account as their benefit payments.
Residents in Scotland are ineligible for Cold Weather Payments but may receive an annual Winter Heating Payment irrespective of local weather conditions.
