Christian Brueckner, the suspect in the Madeleine McCann case, allegedly mentioned to a shopkeeper in Germany that he possesses crucial information that could resolve what is referred to as the “scandal of the century.” This revelation reportedly occurred as he attempted to purchase an untraceable mobile phone shortly after his release from prison.
Brueckner, who had just completed a seven-year sentence for the rape of an elderly woman in Praia da Luz in 2005, was recently released from prison and remains under investigation by the Metropolitan Police, as well as Portuguese and German authorities, regarding the disappearance of the three-year-old girl.
During a visit to a shop, the convicted rapist allegedly expressed concerns about his safety, hinting that he possesses sensitive information that could endanger his life. The shop worker, Farouk Salah-Brahmin, claimed that Brueckner implied having evidence that could bring an end to the major scandal and clear his name from all accusations.
Farouk further stated that Brueckner mentioned USB sticks and hinted at having a solution to a situation, suggesting his involvement in a broader scheme that he was aware of but had not disclosed to the authorities. Brueckner also alluded to potential threats on his life, indicating that someone might try to harm him.
According to Farouk, Brueckner pointed to his ankle, insinuating that he was being monitored, and made remarks indicating a sense of control over his circumstances.
Reports suggest that German police are on high alert after Brueckner attempted to acquire an untraceable phone without proper registration, a violation of the law. Additionally, he was allegedly in possession of an ID card that could facilitate his escape from the country.
Farouk claimed that Brueckner inquired about purchasing a Sim card without providing an identity card, and despite court orders, Brueckner’s ID did not indicate any travel restrictions.
Following his release, Brueckner initially stayed in Kiel but later relocated due to a large police presence, expressing intentions to establish a new life in his current city with a permanent residence.
Brueckner has been a suspect in the Madeleine McCann case since 2020, but he has not faced formal charges related to her abduction and murder. His release from prison in September followed his imprisonment for the rape of an elderly woman in Portugal.
