Britons are advised to prepare an “emergency” kit in anticipation of severe weather expected to affect various parts of the UK this weekend. The Met Office has issued three yellow weather warnings for rain in 15 areas, including parts of Wales, northern England, and southwest Scotland.
Residents in specific regions like Ceredigion, Conwy, Denbighshire, Gwynedd, and Powys in Wales are warned to expect heavy and persistent rainfall, with accumulations ranging from 30-40mm and the potential for 80-100mm on high ground. Similarly, areas like Durham, Northumberland, Cumbria, Lancashire, and North Yorkshire are under a yellow rain warning from Saturday afternoon to Sunday evening, with 30-50mm of rain expected widely and over 100mm possible in elevated areas.
Scotland will also experience heavy rain, with accumulations of 30-40mm across most regions and up to 60-80mm in highland areas. The warning in Scotland covers Dumfries and Galloway, Scottish Borders, East Ayrshire, South Ayrshire, and South Lanarkshire from Saturday noon to Sunday evening.
Forecasters have cautioned all affected areas about the risk of flooding and advised residents to assess their properties for flood risks and prepare an emergency flood kit. Met Office Chief Meteorologist Rebekah Hicks highlighted the potential for travel disruption and localized flooding due to prolonged rainfall on already saturated ground.
The weather agency continues to monitor the situation closely, with expectations of ongoing unsettled conditions into the following week.
