“Met Office Issues Yellow Weather Alerts for Heavy Rain”

The Met Office has issued three fresh yellow weather alerts due to heavy rain, impacting 15 regions and potentially causing floods and power outages.

The warnings are in effect for parts of northwest England and southwest Scotland from Saturday afternoon until Sunday evening, and for areas in north Wales starting midnight on Sunday for the entire day.

The national weather service cautions about possible flooding of homes and businesses, disruptions to bus and train services, as well as spray and flooding on roads leading to longer travel times.

Anticipated heavy rainfall over the weekend may result in travel disruptions and flooding in England, Scotland, and Wales, according to the Met Office. In northern England, the rain is expected to move in from the west on Saturday, gradually clearing by Sunday afternoon and evening, with heavy rainfall and accumulations ranging from 30-50mm, exceeding 100mm in some elevated areas.

Wales could see accumulations of 30 to 40mm widely, with the possibility of 80 to 100mm in higher terrains, while Scotland may experience 30 to 40mm across most areas and 60 to 80mm in elevated regions.

Rebekah Hicks, the Chief Meteorologist at the Met Office, mentioned the likelihood of travel disruptions and localized flooding due to prolonged rainfall and already saturated ground, urging vigilance as further unsettled conditions are expected in the upcoming week.

Today’s Met Office forecast indicates a mostly dry start with sunny spells, cloud increasing throughout the day with rain moving across Northern Ireland, central, and western Scotland, and patchy drizzle in Wales and western England later on, accompanied by mild and windy conditions.

For tonight, expect early clear spells in the northeast, cloudier skies elsewhere with patchy rain, heavier rain in the west spreading eastward overnight, clearing in the northwest later with fog and frost, and easing winds.
