Virgin Media has recently slashed the price of its fastest broadband offering to an all-time low. The company has launched an unexpected sale that has reduced the cost of its high-speed Gig1 Fibre Broadband by over £70.
The Gig1 plan boasts lightning-fast speeds of up to 1,130Mbps and typically retails at £29.99 per month. However, it is currently available for just £26.99, resulting in a substantial saving of £72 over the 24-month contract. This translates to approximately 87p per day.
Virgin claims that this promotion represents the lowest price ever offered for its Gig1 package. With these speeds, users can download a feature-length HD movie in under 30 seconds and have a 50GB PS5 game ready to play within seven minutes.
While households with 70Mbps speeds may take more than 90 minutes to download the same game, Virgin’s ultra-fast connection ensures smooth streaming on platforms like Netflix and seamless online gaming experiences.
It should be noted that the discounted rate of £26.99 will increase twice during the minimum contract term, rising to £30.99 from April 2027 and £34.99 from April 2028. Additionally, the top speed of 1,130Mbps may not be available in all areas of the UK, so prospective customers are advised to check availability using Virgin’s postcode checker.
In comparison to competitors like Sky, Virgin’s £26.99 Gig1 offer presents an attractive option. Despite Sky reducing the price of its 900Mbps plan to £28, it remains pricier than Virgin and delivers slower speeds. Similarly, BT charges £37.99 for access to its 900Mbps connection.
For those seeking even faster speeds at a competitive price, Community Fibre is currently providing 1Gbps speeds for £25 per month, with the first three months free and prices fixed for the contract’s duration. However, Community Fibre’s service is limited to London and select south-east regions.
It’s crucial for consumers to consider their specific needs before committing to a broadband plan. While a couple living in a flat and streaming Netflix may suffice with speeds around 100Mbps, larger households engaging in remote work, downloading content, and online gaming should aim for at least 300Mbps for optimal performance.
Opting for Virgin’s 1Gbps fibre service is akin to having a high-speed expressway directly into your home, ensuring a smooth and efficient online experience for all your connectivity needs.
