Cabinet members Wes Streeting and Lisa Nandy showcased their singing talents with a lively performance of Oasis’ classic hit, Don’t Look Back in Anger. The duo, along with former shadow minister Jonathan Ashworth, took the stage at the renowned Mirror party during the Labour Party Conference. Health Secretary Mr. Streeting and Culture Secretary Ms. Nandy were among the politicians who participated in the karaoke session.
The event began on an emotional note with Justice minister Alex Davies-Jones delivering a moving rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone, accompanied by Hillsborough campaigners. Margaret Aspinall, whose son was a victim of the 1989 tragedy, made a heartfelt plea for the swift passage of a new law to prevent cover-ups.
The annual party, organized in collaboration with InHouse Communications and featuring drinks from Diageo, is a post-keynote speech tradition following the Prime Minister’s address. Mr. Streeting energized the crowd with his performance of Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me, joined by Labour MP Oliver Ryan. The evening saw journalists, MPs, and political staff taking turns on stage, letting loose after a busy conference.
Labour MP Mark Ferguson sang Pulp’s Common People, while Housing Secretary Steve Reed belted out Sweet Caroline. MPs Jen Craft and Christian Wakeford entertained the audience with Wheatus’ Teenage Dirtbag, and The Mirror’s Mikey Smith led a spirited rendition of Green Day’s American Idiot.
The party at the conference center in Liverpool drew a large crowd, with guests enjoying themselves well into the early hours. The iconic Mirror Chicken, known for its interactions with politicians, even showed off some dance moves at the event.
The festivities followed Keir Starmer’s keynote speech, where he pledged to confront Nigel Farage, although Starmer was not present at the party.
