Thousands of households have a limited time to secure £100 in supermarket vouchers as Nottingham City Council offers support through the Household Support Fund. The council aims to notify applicants via email by December 12, with voucher distribution potentially extending until February 28, 2026. 10,000 vouchers will be randomly allocated to successful households, irrespective of previous receipt of council vouchers since April 2025.
Councillor Cheryl Barnard, Executive Member for Children, Young People, and Education at the Council, expressed satisfaction with the additional £1 million allocated to support vulnerable residents in Nottingham during the winter months. This funding aims to alleviate financial pressures exacerbated by rising living costs over recent years.
The Household Support Fund, part of a £742 million government funding allocation to local councils in England, assists vulnerable households with essential expenses like energy bills and food. Residents facing financial difficulties should contact their local council to explore available support options.
Nottingham City Council is not the only authority extending aid. Wakefield Council, for instance, is issuing food vouchers to low-income households receiving council tax assistance. Pensioners benefiting from Council Tax Support have received £70 vouchers, with additional vouchers forthcoming for other eligible households.
Beginning December 15, families on Council Tax Support will receive £50 vouchers, while other eligible households will receive £70 vouchers between December 3 and December 12. Blackpool Council is providing £200 energy assistance to qualifying households of one or two individuals and £300 to larger households, including children.
To qualify for support, individuals must demonstrate financial hardship and an inability to meet bill payments. Submission of recent bank statements for all household members is required to verify eligibility.
