Canada’s national police force announced on Monday the arrest of a 51-year-old male suspect for allegedly issuing death threats against Prime Minister Mark Carney. Marc-André Porlier, residing in Montreal, faces charges of making threats to cause death or bodily harm, as stated in an RCMP press release. The threats were reportedly conveyed via email to various unidentified recipients, including a senator, law enforcement revealed in the press release. The accused individual also purportedly menaced “all Canadian police officers,” according to official documents.
Porlier had previously been convicted of arson and vandalism for setting fire to a church in Toronto back in 2017, as confirmed by law enforcement to CBC News. He was serving probation for those offenses, a spokesperson for the RCMP mentioned. Porlier made a court appearance on Saturday, as disclosed in the press release, with the charges yet to be substantiated in court.
