Despite this success, the Canadian actor revealed that he has not been inundated with casting offers post the movie’s success. Page disclosed this during an interview on the podcast On Film… With Kevin McCarthy on Tuesday.
When asked about his upcoming projects and the assumption that he must be receiving numerous calls after his performance, Page responded, “No, Kevin, I’m not.” Hailed for his portrayal of the Greek soldier Sinon in The Odyssey, Page received acclaim for his depiction of the character who meets an untimely demise in Odysseus’s scheme and later delivers a poignant monologue from the afterlife.
Addressing the controversy surrounding his casting, Page humorously referred to the transphobic uproar sparked by false rumors suggesting his portrayal of Achilles, a role that turned out to be different. Notable figures like Ben Shapiro, Megyn Kelly, and Elon Musk fueled social media debates over the idea of a trans man playing the character, a situation dismissed as absurd by 2SLGBTQ+ advocates.
Page, a seasoned actor with a career spanning from childhood to acclaimed roles in films like Juno, Inception, and Hard Candy, publicly came out as transgender in 2020. He has been vocal against anti-2SLGBTQ+ rhetoric and legislation in both the U.S. and Canada, signing a letter in 2024 denouncing harmful anti-trans policies.
In a recent podcast episode, Page expressed his eagerness to continue acting, citing newfound confidence and comfort post his transition as factors that could lead to his best work yet. Reflecting on his experience working with Nolan on Inception, where he portrayed a female character, Page contrasted the discomfort he felt then with the sense of closure he experienced after wrapping up his role in The Odyssey.
Similar to Page, actress Samantha Morton, who portrayed Circe in the Nolan epic, revealed on a podcast that she has not secured any roles since the film’s release, attributing it to industry dynamics and the changing landscape.
