“Charges Laid in Cattle Brand Alteration Scandal”

RCMP has pressed charges against a 52-year-old individual following an inquiry into allegations concerning the unauthorized alteration of cattle brands. Branding serves as a customary method to establish livestock ownership. The investigation was initiated after Livestock Services of Saskatchewan received a report on July 6 regarding tampered cattle brands at a farm situated in the rural municipality of Martin, approximately 225 kilometers east of Regina. Owen Third, the Saskatchewan RCMP’s livestock investigator, collaborated with Moosomin RCMP officers and Livestock Services of Saskatchewan to examine 197 cattle heads on the farm. Out of these, 99 cattle were found to bear altered brands overlaid on the original ones, while the rest were discovered with new fraudulent brands. The accused individual faces charges including altering a cattle brand and committing fraud exceeding $5,000. The suspect is slated to appear in court for the first time next month.
