At the Montreal Elite16 tournament, Canadian beach volleyball players Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson clinched the bronze medal in front of their home crowd.
The duo, who won silver at the 2024 Olympics, staged a comeback to defeat Germany’s Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann with scores of 20-22, 21-12, and 18-16, securing a spot on the podium.
Wilkerson showcased an impressive performance with 32 attack points, 5 block points, and a key serve point, while Humana-Paredes contributed 9 attack points.
The match had to be paused due to adverse weather conditions before resuming.
Earlier in the day, Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson suffered a defeat in the semifinals against Brazil’s Thamela Galil and Victoria Tosta, losing 21-19, 20-22, and 15-7.
Despite missing out on a three-peat, the Canadians bounced back to compete for the bronze against Germany’s Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann.
The duo had previously claimed victory in Montreal in 2023 and 2025, with an Olympic silver medal in between at the Paris Games.
Canadian men secure bronze
Canada’s Sam Schachter and Jonathan Pickett staged a remarkable comeback to win the men’s bronze medal match on Sunday.
The Ontario pair defeated Norway’s Hendrik Mol and Mathias Berntsen after dropping the first set 16-21 but rallying to win the next two sets 28-26 and 15-12, securing their first podium finish together on home turf.
Schachter and Pickett caused an upset by defeating the top-ranked pair of Jacob Hölting Nilsson and Elmer Andersson to reach the men’s semifinals at the FIVB Beach Pro Tour event the day before.
Although they fell short in the semifinals, losing 2-1 (21-12, 16-21, 16-14) to Brazil’s Renato Andrew Lima de Carvalho and André Loyola Stein, the 39th-ranked Canadians showed resilience throughout the tournament.
