Rock Legend Sass Jordan Dies at 63

Sass Jordan, a renowned rock singer from Montreal with a career stretching over almost four decades, has passed away at the age of 63. The news was confirmed by family spokesperson Eric Alper, who mentioned that Jordan passed away on Friday surrounded by her loved ones.

Described as a unique and vibrant personality, Jordan’s cause of death has not been disclosed. Her musical journey began with the release of her debut album, “Tell Somebody,” in 1988, followed by winning the Juno Award for most promising female vocalist in 1989. The success continued with her second album, “Racine,” in 1992, featuring hits like “Make You a Believer.”

Throughout her career, Jordan received multiple Juno Award nominations for best female vocalist and served as a judge on all six seasons of the reality TV show “Canadian Idol.” Born in Birmingham, England, and raised in Montreal, she was known for her bold and courageous musical style.

Geoff Kulawick, the former president of Stony Plain Records, praised Jordan as “bold, beautiful, and brave.” Her final two albums, “Rebel Moon Blues” in 2020 and “Bitches Blues” in 2022, were recorded with her husband Derek Sharp under Stony Plain Records.

Derek Downham, a Canadian producer and songwriter, fondly remembered his interactions with Jordan, highlighting her infectious laughter and bright personality.
