Canada’s Sophia Jensen secured her first-ever world title at the 2026 ICF Canoe Sprint & Paracanoe World Championships in Poznań, Poland. The 24-year-old athlete from Chelsea, Que., clinched the gold medal in the women’s C1 500-meter final with a winning time of 2:00.78. Agnes Anna Kiss of Hungary claimed the silver medal in 2:02.80, while Belarusian Alena Nazdrova took home the bronze in 2:04.80.
In addition to Jensen’s victory, Ottawa’s Brianna Hennessy also shined by earning a bronze medal in the KL1 women’s 200m final with a time of 54.20 seconds. Chilean Paralympic champion Katherinne Wollermann seized the gold with a time of 52.23 seconds, surpassing China’s Maosan Xie who secured the silver in 53.92 seconds.
