Former agent of Rory McIlroy expresses skepticism about Team USA’s chances in the upcoming Ryder Cup tournament. The tournament is scheduled to be held from September 26 to 28 at the Black Course in Farmingdale, New York. Team Europe currently holds the title after their victory in 2023.
Leading the teams this year are Luke Donald from England and Keegan Bradley from the USA. Team USA aims to replicate their exceptional performance from the previous Ryder Cup, where they set a record-breaking margin for victory in 2021.
Team USA boasts players like JJ Spaun, the US Open champion, and Scottie Scheffler, who is considered a standout player in the sport, having won both the PGA Championship and The Open Championship this year.
Despite the strengths of Team USA, Andrew ‘Chubby’ Chandler, McIlroy’s ex-agent, doubts their ability to secure a third consecutive home victory. Chandler points out that Team USA’s advantages lie in the home crowd support and the presence of world No. 1 player Scheffler.
Chandler highlighted Europe’s strengths, including consistent top performers, experience in major tournaments, and the emergence of players like Tommy Fleetwood, who recently won significant tournaments, adding depth to the European team.
Fleetwood’s recent success at the Tour Championship and FedExCup has bolstered Europe’s lineup. Chandler emphasized Europe’s team spirit, fortitude, and the leadership of Captain Luke Donald as key factors that could give them an edge over the American team.
Observing the body language of the American team during the selection process, Chandler noted a lack of excitement among the players, except for Ben Griffin. He concluded that based on his assessment, he does not foresee America winning the Ryder Cup.
