A new threat named Sturnus has been identified by cybersecurity experts, posing a risk to users of WhatsApp, Telegram, and Signal on Android devices. This Trojan, discovered by MTI Security researchers, allows hackers to remotely take over devices, enabling them to monitor user activities, intercept messages, and perform unauthorized transactions.
Sturnus is particularly concerning as it can bypass encrypted messaging platforms, potentially accessing sensitive information like banking credentials. Although still in the early stages of development, the threat level could escalate if hackers find ways to distribute it widely, impacting millions of Android users.
According to Threat Fabric, the creators of Sturnus have designed it with multiple attack capabilities, including credential theft, keylogging, screen streaming, remote control, and device administrator abuse. To protect against such threats, users are advised to only download apps from official sources like the Google Play Store, avoid sideloading software, and review app ratings before installation.
While Sturnus is a new threat, its advanced features make it a significant concern for users’ financial security and privacy. Stay vigilant and take precautions to safeguard your devices against potential cyberattacks.
