O2, the popular UK mobile network now under Virgin Media, is spreading holiday joy by giving millions of customers an extra 10GB of mobile data at no cost this December. This bonus data is automatically added to eligible users’ monthly allowance, visible in their account and the MyO2 app. The offer comes with no usage restrictions, allowing customers to enjoy activities like movie streaming, photo sharing, and video calling.
The free 10GB data boost is available to all Pay Monthly customers, excluding those on Unlimited plans or business tariffs. According to Christian Hindennach, Chief Commercial Officer at Virgin Media O2, the aim is to make it easier for customers to stay connected with loved ones during the festive season. The additional data can support approximately 20 hours of video calls, 2,000 streamed songs, or about four and a half hours of HD Netflix or Disney+ viewing.
O2’s gesture of goodwill follows a report by Ofcom indicating a 10% increase in UK mobile data consumption in 2025 compared to 2024, totaling a staggering 1.2 billion GB per month. This surge in data usage is equivalent to streaming 400 million HD football matches, catering to diverse entertainment preferences.
