Joey Essex is facing significant financial challenges, with debts amounting to £1.3 million attributed to his entertainment company. The reality TV personality and former Love Island contestant has struggled to repay a substantial loan of £780,000 borrowed from his own company, Joey Essex Management Ltd.
Recent documents obtained by the Mirror indicate uncertainty from liquidators regarding Essex’s ability to repay the overdrawn loan despite his earlier declaration of solvency in August last year. Further examination reveals additional debts totaling £497,246, including a substantial sum of £442,303 owed to HMRC encompassing outstanding VAT, PAYE, corporation tax, and court expenses.
Essex’s financial woes extend to owing £39,942 to Coutts bank and £15,000 to Companies House, surpassing initial estimations of £300,000 in tax liabilities. Notably, Essex is the sole director and shareholder of the company, established in 2011 concurrent with his TOWIE debut, though he has amassed significant earnings from various television ventures such as Educating Joey Essex, Celebs Go Dating, Dancing on Ice, and Love Island.
Despite these challenges, Essex’s company reported assets totaling £890,000 by 2023, with substantial cash reserves of £780,000. Additionally, Essex holds ownership in dormant companies, JDE Property Limited valued at £100, and Fusey Productions Limited.
In an attempt to alleviate his financial burdens, Essex recently ventured into the boxing arena, reportedly earning £500,000 for his inaugural fight. However, his boxing triumph may be in jeopardy as his opponent contests the outcome and plans to challenge the result. The battle in question took place during the latest Misfits event in Manchester, where Essex secured a points victory against Portuguese influencer Numeiro after enduring a standing count in both the fourth and final rounds.
Following the fight, Numeiro expressed intentions to appeal the result, emphasizing the importance of achieving a fair resolution for their initial encounter. While a potential rematch is being discussed, Numeiro prefers the bout to occur outside the UK for impartiality.
