A couple touring a house had a chilling encounter that led them to contact the authorities. The pair was exploring the property independently when they made a disturbing find.
Upon entering the residence through the back entrance, they immediately sensed something was wrong. They discovered what appeared to be human remains in an advanced state of decay.
Local law enforcement responded to reports of suspicious circumstances at a residence on Delphos Avenue in Dayton, Ohio, USA, around 10 am on September 10th. The police informed media outlets that they were summoned to the house.
Dayton Police Lieutenant Eric Sheldon disclosed to PEOPLE magazine that human remains in an advanced state of decay were discovered inside the home.
According to the Dayton Daily News, the body was severely decomposed. Sergeant Creigee Coleman stated during a press briefing that it is challenging to ascertain whether the deceased individual was a resident, a squatter, or a missing person seeking shelter.
He informed reporters that efforts were underway to identify the deceased person to notify their family. It is suspected that the body had been in the residence for a considerable period.
The remains have been transferred to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for further examination. Authorities have confirmed communication with the property owner.
Sheldon mentioned that the investigation will now be handled by the homicide department, as per standard procedure, and the crime lab will work on identifying the remains.
Neighbor Donald Arnold reported detecting a putrid odor emanating from the house, initially assuming it was from a deceased animal. He described the stench as unbearable and had noticed it over the past two weeks.
Authorities are now seeking information from any potential witnesses as part of their inquiry.
