Freely, a relatively new streaming service in the UK, has achieved significant success since its launch in 2024. The platform recently hit a milestone by surpassing one million weekly users, indicating rapid growth compared to last September. This accomplishment positions Freely as the fastest-growing TV platform in the UK for 2025.
Jonathan Thompson, the CEO of Everyone TV, expressed excitement about reaching over one million weekly users, citing the demand for a convenient way to stream live British TV and access on-demand shows in a single platform. He emphasized the collaborative efforts of UK public service broadcasters in making British TV easily accessible for viewers.
Although Freely still trails behind larger platforms like Sky and Freeview, the trend toward streaming and away from expensive subscriptions may expedite its growth. Unlike Freeview, Freely operates solely over a broadband connection, simplifying the setup process for users.
Offering various features such as live TV pausing, personalized recommendations, and a comprehensive TV guide, Freely caters to viewer preferences. Initially compatible with a limited range of TVs, the service is now accessible on a wide array of models from popular brands like Hisense, Panasonic, Bush, and Sharp.
Furthermore, Freely has introduced a streaming puck named Pleio, enabling users to access the platform on nearly any TV. Future plans include launching additional set-top devices to expand Freely’s market share in the upcoming months.
