Emma Raducanu Withdraws from Wuhan Match Due to Health Issue

Emma Raducanu was compelled to withdraw from her Wuhan match against Ann Li due to health reasons following a medical evaluation by the WTA physio and tournament doctor. Raducanu, aged 22, was trailing 6-1, 4-1 against Ann Li when she made the decision to retire.

Ann Li expressed her well wishes for Raducanu’s speedy recovery after the match, mentioning that Raducanu appeared unwell during the game. Despite a strong start where Raducanu broke her opponent in the opening game, she began to struggle, showing signs of dizziness before receiving medical attention.

Following the medical check-up, Li took control of the match, winning six consecutive games before Raducanu decided to end her participation. The challenging weather conditions with 60% humidity and a temperature of around 35 degrees added to the difficulties faced by the players during the match.

This retirement marks Raducanu as the latest player to withdraw from a tournament recently, with concerns raised by other players about the demanding schedule in tennis. Raducanu, who had faced disappointing defeats in previous matches, expressed her determination to improve and achieve a seeded position at the upcoming Australian Open.
