Fire TV Stick users in the UK are facing a crackdown on illegal streaming by Amazon. The tech giant had previously announced new rules to combat the use of its devices for unauthorized streaming. The popularity of ‘dodgy’ Fire TV Sticks, offering access to premium content without subscription fees, has prompted this action.
Amazon, in collaboration with the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE), is blocking apps that provide access to pirated content. The company emphasized its commitment to fighting piracy to protect creators and customers from malware and fraud. The ban started in parts of Europe last November and is now affecting UK users, with some receiving messages that their apps no longer work due to unlicensed content.
While not all users are impacted currently, more are expected to be affected over time. This move signals a shift in the availability of free streaming on Fire TV Sticks. Concurrently, Amazon is also restricting the installation of certain apps, displaying messages informing users that access to unlicensed content is blocked for their protection. Users are encouraged to explore content options through the Amazon Appstore.
