Aldi’s management has revealed their intention to shut down all of their stores in the United Kingdom for a three-day period later this year. This decision allows employees to enjoy part of the Christmas holiday with their families.
The popular discount supermarket chain currently operates more than 1,050 stores across England, Scotland, and Wales, with plans to further expand to reach 1,500 locations. Known for its wide range of affordable products and the ever-changing SpecialBuys in its infamous middle aisle, Aldi has garnered a loyal customer base.
The company confirmed that on Christmas Day and Boxing Day (December 25 and 26), all Aldi stores will be closed, reopening on Saturday, December 27. Additionally, there will be another closure on New Year’s Day (January 1), with stores reopening on January 2, 2026. Normal operating hours will resume between December 27 and 31.
In line with previous holiday plans, executives of the UK’s fourth-largest supermarket have decided to give store colleagues the opportunity to spend quality time with their loved ones. Leading up to Christmas, opening hours will be extended to accommodate customers preparing for the festive season.
Rebecca Heley, Aldi UK’s communications director, emphasized the importance of allowing colleagues to relax and enjoy the holiday season with their families. This closure on Boxing Day is a gesture of appreciation for the hard work put in by employees to provide customers with an exceptional Christmas experience.
Similar to Aldi, other retailers have also announced their festive plans, with B&M and Home Bargains indicating closures on specific days to allow staff to rest and spend time with their families. Home Bargains will close on Christmas Eve at 5pm and reopen on December 27, ensuring that employees have sufficient time off during the holiday season.
