“Aldi Unveils Ambitious Expansion Plan Across 23 Locations”

Aldi has disclosed a roster of 23 towns and cities where it aims to establish new stores. The discount retailer is eyeing these locations as part of an extensive £1.6 billion expansion scheme set for the next two years. In its recent annual trading update, Aldi announced intentions to launch 80 stores between 2026 and 2027.

In addition to opening new stores, the investment will be channeled into enhancing existing ones and upgrading the distribution network. With 1,060 stores presently, Aldi has previously outlined plans to boost this figure to 1,500 stores countrywide. This strategic expansion is expected to generate numerous job opportunities and foster growth for British suppliers.

Some of the areas targeted by Aldi for new stores in the upcoming years include:

Giles Hurley, the Chief Executive Officer for Aldi UK and Ireland, emphasized the brand’s commitment to offering top-quality products at competitive prices. Aldi’s focus remains on delivering consistent low prices without the need for loyalty schemes or marketing gimmicks, ensuring trust and quality for customers.

Having introduced its first UK store over 35 years ago, Aldi has expanded to nearly 800 towns and cities, yet many communities are still without an Aldi presence. With a dedicated investment of £1.6 billion in the pipeline, Aldi aims to make its affordable offerings accessible to millions more customers.

In its latest financial report covering the 12 months up to December 2024, Aldi reported a surge in sales to £18.1 billion. Despite a decline in operating profit to £435.5 million, attributed in part to customer price reductions, infrastructure investments, and increased employee wages, Aldi remains steadfast in its commitment to providing value.

Moreover, Aldi recently announced over 900 price reductions across its product range and disclosed investing over £300 million in price cuts since the beginning of 2025. The supermarket also raised store assistant wages twice this year, with a minimum hourly pay of £13.02 nationally and £14.35 within the M25 region starting this month.
