Another cast member of Saturday Night Live has confirmed their departure from the popular late-night sketch show. This marks the fifth exit ahead of the upcoming season premiere next month.
Ego Nwodim, aged 37, announced that she will not be returning to the NBC program after joining the cast in 2018. In a statement, the comedian expressed that leaving was her own choice and extended gratitude to show creator Lorne Michaels for the opportunity.
Taking to Instagram, Ego shared, “The hardest part of a great party is knowing when to say goodnight. But after seven unforgettable seasons, I have decided to leave SNL.” She continued by thanking Michaels, castmates, writers, and crew for their support and friendship.
Fans reacted with well wishes, expressing sadness over her departure. One fan commented, “You will be greatly missed but can’t wait to see what’s ahead.” Another wrote, “Gonna miss you so much ughhhh,” while a third added, “You’ll be very very missed!!!!!”
Ego joins a list of departing stars, including Devon Walker, Emil Wakim, and Michael Longfellow. Additionally, reports indicate that Heidi Gardner and the Please Don’t Destroy segment creators are also leaving the show. The new season of SNL is set to kick off on October 4 in the US.
