“Boxing Champ Bud Crawford in Police Standoff”

Terence “Bud” Crawford, the recently crowned undisputed world super middleweight boxing champion, found himself in a challenging situation when police stopped him for suspected dangerous driving in Omaha, NE, during the early hours of a Saturday morning.

During the incident, Crawford and three passengers were asked to exit their vehicle at gunpoint after law enforcement officers noticed a firearm, legally possessed by one of Crawford’s companions, on the car’s floor.

The officers quickly recognized Crawford, who was in town to celebrate his 38th birthday and recent victory over Canelo Alvarez in Las Vegas.

Following the encounter, the Omaha Mayor and Police Chief acknowledged a video circulating on social media regarding the traffic stop involving Crawford. A statement issued on Sunday morning confirmed that an internal affairs investigation had been authorized by Chief Schmaderer.

Police officers observed a vehicle driving recklessly near North 12th and Capitol Avenue before conducting a traffic stop at Cass Street around 1:30 a.m. The driver, later identified as Mr. Crawford, was cited for reckless driving after an officer noticed the firearm on the driver’s side floorboard.

All occupants of the vehicle were legally permitted to carry firearms, and a police supervisor and lieutenant responded to the scene at Crawford’s request.

In response to the incident, Mayor Ewing emphasized the importance of community trust in law enforcement and supported a thorough internal investigation led by Chief Schmaderer.

Qasim Shabazz, head of Crawford’s security team, expressed concern over the situation, stating that he feared for their lives and described the police officer’s reaction upon discovering the firearm.
