“Britons Face Severe Travel Disruptions Due to Thick Fog”

Britons are encountering travel disruptions this morning as thick fog is scheduled to envelop various parts of the nation. The Met Office has issued a weather warning for the fog, expected to persist until approximately 10 am, with the most intense fog anticipated in the Midlands and the Home Counties.

According to the weather agency, fog patches, particularly in rural areas with visibility below 100 meters in some places, are anticipated to gradually dissipate this morning. This is likely to lead to slower journey times, delays in bus and train services, and potential flight disruptions.

Birmingham Airport, located just outside the warned regions, is on high alert due to reduced visibility caused by fog. Bristol Airport and East Midlands Airport may also experience issues due to the weather conditions, although they are not officially under the alert.

Severe driving conditions are foreseen, especially on rural roads in the Home Counties. Motorways such as the M40, M5, and M1 may pose challenges during the morning rush hour.

The Met Office advises individuals to check road conditions before driving, allocate additional travel time, and adjust plans if necessary. It is crucial to ensure fog lights are operational before embarking on a journey. Passengers using bus, train, flight, or ferry services are urged to stay updated with travel company notifications and adhere to their guidance.

While the fog is expected to dissipate gradually, rain is predicted to follow. The western coast of Wales, as well as parts of Lancashire and Cumbria, are likely to experience significant rainfall this afternoon. Temperatures are anticipated to be cooler than the previous day, with highs of 8-9°C in Southeast England. On Tuesday, Slough, Berkshire, recorded a peak temperature of 12.6°C.
