Britons residing in 20 areas have been advised to prepare an ’emergency’ flood kit along with essential items. The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain, effective from midday today until 8 am tomorrow, encompassing significant portions of South Wales and the southwest of England.
According to the warning, rainfall is anticipated to intensify and become more widespread in these regions before subsiding early on Wednesday. Individuals should anticipate spray and flooding on roads, as well as disruptions to bus and train services.
Meteorologists project up to 40mm of rain in the warned areas, with exposed south-facing hills of the Brecon Beacons and Dartmoor likely to experience over 50mm.
The Met Office also recommends assessing the risk of flooding to homes and preparing a flood plan and emergency flood kit if necessary. To avoid delays, individuals are advised to check road conditions, bus and train schedules, and adjust travel arrangements accordingly. It is also suggested to prepare for potential power outages by having torches, batteries, and mobile phone chargers at hand.
The forecast for Wednesday from the Met Office indicates continued cloudiness with periods of rain, gradually clearing in the south with possible sunshine and mild temperatures, while winds are expected to diminish.
Looking ahead to the remainder of the week, western regions are likely to encounter further rainy spells on Thursday and Friday, with drier and brighter conditions prevailing in the east. By Saturday, a shift towards more widespread dry and sunny weather is anticipated.
BBC Weather forecasts a predominantly cloudy day with rain spreading northwards on Wednesday, though the far north and southeast will start dry with sunny intervals, followed by rain moving into northern Scotland later.
For the upcoming days, BBC’s forecasters predict a warm front clearing on Thursday, yet rain persisting in the far north, alongside variable cloud cover and showers moving northward in the afternoon. Friday is expected to bring cloud and rain to western areas, while the east should remain dry with sunny intervals. Saturday’s outlook suggests mainly cloudy conditions with a chance of light showers in far northern regions.
