The Canadian senior women’s basketball team dominated the Philippines with a resounding 85-38 victory on Wednesday at the FIBA Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament in Guadalajara, Mexico. Yvonne Ejim led the scoring for Canada with 19 points, while Syla Swords contributed 15 points to the win. Canada established an early lead of 23-4 at Arena Astros and extended it to 46-11 by halftime. The tournament, featuring eight teams, will continue until Sunday.
Earlier, Canada secured a 72-57 win over Senegal in the tournament opener on Monday. The Canadians are set to face host Mexico in their upcoming match on Thursday. The eventual champion of the tournament will secure a spot in one of the FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournaments scheduled for February 2028.
