“Canadian Athletes Ready for Diamond League Final”

Ahead of the upcoming World Athletics Ultimate Championship, attention is currently on the Diamond League Final this week where Canadian athletes are gearing up for a tough competition.

The Canadian trio consisting of sprinter Audrey Leduc, middle-distance runner Marco Arop, and shot put star Sarah Mitton will be vying for top honors and the $30,000 US prize in their respective events in Brussels on Friday.

Teammate Andre De Grasse, who initially qualified for the men’s 200 meters in Belgium but was later withdrawn due to a personal commitment, is focusing on the upcoming Ultimate Championship, according to Athletics Canada.

Athletes who have gathered points along the Road to the Final at 14 series meetings across various continents from April to August will be participating. The 50th edition of the Allianz Memorial Van Damme track and field meet at King Baudouin Stadium will witness the presence of 40 reigning world and/or Olympic champions.

Sarah Mitton, among the Canadian contenders, aims to secure her second Diamond League Trophy in Belgium after a controversial incident led to her disqualification from the title last year.

The women’s shot put competition on Friday will see Mitton striving for success once again after her previous challenges. The event will kick off at 12:30 p.m. ET.

Last July, Mitton triumphed at the Commonwealth Games, showcasing her prowess with a series of impressive performances in the shot put discipline. Her recent achievements have positioned her as a strong contender in the upcoming events.

Marco Arop, who secured a third-place finish at last year’s Diamond League Final, is gearing up for another intense competition after his remarkable performance at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

Leduc, on the other hand, has earned her place at the women’s 200 meters Final following a successful run earlier in the season. Her consistent performances have solidified her position among the top athletes in her category.

The stakes are high for the Canadian athletes as they strive for victory in Brussels, aiming to secure a spot in the prestigious World Athletics Ultimate Championship with a lucrative prize pool.

Additionally, notable international athletes across various disciplines are set to compete at the Diamond League Final, promising an exciting and fiercely competitive event.
