DeChambeau Responds to YouTube Fame Critics

Bryson DeChambeau, the prominent figure in LIV Golf and a key member of Team USA, has responded to critics challenging his fame on YouTube. This comes just ahead of the Ryder Cup starting at Bethpage Black on September 26.

DeChambeau shrugged off recent criticisms from Golf Channel analyst Brandel Chamblee while interacting with fans and signing autographs. Chamblee’s public disapproval of DeChambeau dates back to before his 2020 US Open triumph.

During a LIV event in Mexico City, Chamblee advised the American star to stop complaining about bunkers. From the perspective of the Ryder Cup, Chamblee labeled DeChambeau as a “captain’s nightmare,” an “eccentric individual,” and even a “showman,” implying that his YouTube focus and personality might pose challenges as a teammate. Chamblee also cast doubt on DeChambeau’s 2.43 million subscribers, suggesting artificial means may have contributed to his popularity.

Chamblee linked his critique to DeChambeau’s remarks at the ‘Happy Gilmore 2’ premiere in July, where DeChambeau mentioned his intention to engage with Rory at the Ryder Cup without emphasizing winning the tournament but rather focusing on his YouTube channel.

The criticism quickly spread on social media but was met with support. US captain Keegan Bradley defended DeChambeau, praising his qualities within the team. Scottie Scheffler also commended him as a strong competitor, reflecting on their successful partnership in 2021.

Xander Schauffele expressed confidence in DeChambeau’s potential to make a significant impact in the US team’s quest to regain the Cup. During practice rounds in New York, fans swarmed DeChambeau, seeking autographs on various items, creating a memorable moment that circulated widely online.

When asked about Chamblee’s comments, DeChambeau brushed them off with a smile, indicating he was unaware of the specifics. His Break 50 YouTube series has garnered significant attention, with videos featuring prominent figures like Donald Trump, John Daly, and Adam Sandler accumulating millions of views.

His recent video, released just before Scottie Scheffler’s victory at the Procore Championship, showcases DeChambeau attempting to set public course records at Sawgrass’s island green and Oakmont’s challenging par-4 stretch.
