“Doctor and Nurse Caught in Operating Theatre Tryst”

A doctor who is married engaged in sexual activity with a nurse inside an operating theatre while a patient was undergoing anesthesia, as revealed during a medical tribunal.

Dr. Suhail Anjum and the nurse, identified as Nurse C, were discovered in a compromising situation by a colleague at Tameside Hospital in Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester. Dr. Anjum left his duties as a consultant anaesthetist in theatre five to engage in sexual activity with Nurse C in another operating theatre.

During a hearing, it was disclosed that Dr. Anjum left the operating theatre during a procedure on September 16, 2013. Nurse NT, who entered the room, witnessed the inappropriate behavior between Dr. Anjum and Nurse C. Nurse NT reported the incident to her supervisor, leading to the investigation by the General Medical Council.

Dr. Anjum admitted to the misconduct, acknowledging the potential risk to the patient and the breach of trust. He expressed regret and stated that the incident was a one-time lapse in judgment. Despite leaving the hospital in February 2024 and returning to Pakistan, he expressed a desire to resume his medical career in the UK with a commitment to avoiding any future similar incidents.

In his testimony, Dr. Anjum acknowledged the impact of personal stress, particularly related to his family’s circumstances following the premature birth of his daughter in January 2023. He detailed the difficulties his family faced during the challenging period, affecting his personal life, mental health, and work responsibilities at the hospital.

The hearing in Manchester will reconvene to determine whether Dr. Anjum’s professional conduct has been compromised due to the aforementioned misconduct.
