Eddie Hearn criticized Chris Eubank Jr, labeling him as disrespectful, for obstructing a tribute to Ricky Hatton during a press event for his upcoming match against Conor Benn. The passing of Hatton at 46 years old on Sunday deeply impacted the boxing community, with heartfelt tributes pouring in globally for the renowned ‘The Hitman’. Hearn, like many others, sought to honor the British boxing icon during a press conference on Tuesday evening.
As Hearn tried to deliver a brief homage to Hatton, Eubank Jr could be heard singing in the background. Despite Hearn’s request for just “30 seconds” to speak about Hatton, Eubank Jr dismissed the idea. Hearn attempted to engage with Eubank Jr, but the latter curtly replied, “You know the drill.” Hearn then expressed his frustration, calling Eubank Jr derogatory names, while Eubank Jr continued to be dismissive. The situation escalated as Eubank Jr portrayed himself as the victim, prompting Hearn to express his intent to pay respects to Hatton before being interrupted again.
Eubank Jr repeatedly disrupted Hearn during the press conference, which aimed to promote their upcoming November rematch following Eubank Jr’s previous victory over Benn. Benn, wearing a Manchester City shirt at the event, paid tribute to Hatton, a devoted City fan, who was honored by the club before their recent victory over Manchester United in the derby.
Following Hatton’s passing, Eubank Jr did post a tribute on social media, stating, “Rest in Peace Mr. Ricky Hatton. We salute you.”
