EDF is set to provide customers with an opportunity to receive up to 16 hours of complimentary electricity starting this weekend. The energy company is launching its upcoming Sunday Saver challenge, a program designed to reward customers who shift their energy usage away from peak hours during weekdays.
Peak hours, typically observed between 4pm to 7pm from Monday to Friday, are the focus of this initiative, encouraging participants to minimize energy consumption during these periods. In exchange for adjusting their energy usage habits, EDF offers customers between four and 16 hours of free electricity to be utilized on the following Sunday.
Participants who reduce their energy consumption by 5% can earn four hours of free electricity. Further reductions result in increased rewards, with a 20% reduction earning eight hours, a 35% reduction earning twelve hours, and a 50% reduction earning the maximum of 16 hours of free electricity.
To join the Sunday Saver program, customers need to manually sign up through their EDF account as the scheme does not automatically enroll EDF clients. Additionally, participants must have a smart meter that sends readings to EDF every 30 minutes.
Rich Hughes, the Director of Retail at EDF, emphasized the program’s goal of assisting customers in saving money and reducing carbon emissions while supporting a sustainable energy system. Over 154,000 customers have already benefited from the free electricity rewards by adjusting their daily energy usage habits.
As energy bills are anticipated to increase this winter, with the Ofgem price cap rising from £1,720 to £1,755 for a standard dual fuel household paying by direct debit, it becomes crucial for consumers to explore such opportunities to manage their energy costs effectively.
