Elon Musk faced criticism for his remarks at a far-right gathering where he warned of impending violence in the UK. Speaking via video link at Tommy Robinson’s “Unite the Kingdom” rally, the tech mogul called for the dissolution of Parliament and spoke against Keir Starmer’s administration.
During his speech, Musk denounced the “woke mind virus” and cautioned the audience that regardless of their stance on violence, it would inevitably impact them. He emphasized the choice to either resist or succumb to it.
Business Secretary Peter Kyle denounced Musk’s comments as inappropriate and incomprehensible. He highlighted the majority of the crowd, over 100,000 individuals, who peacefully exercised their freedom of speech and association. Kyle acknowledged a minority engaging in violent acts against law enforcement, stressing accountability for such behavior.
Kyle attributed the rise of discontent in society to figures like Robinson exploiting underlying grievances, exacerbated by economic challenges since the financial crisis. He called for renewed efforts to address these concerns and emphasized the significance of immigration in public discourse.
The event witnessed a turnout of approximately 110,000 to 150,000 attendees, with a counter-protest by around 5,000 anti-racism demonstrators. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood condemned the violent clashes with law enforcement, promising legal repercussions for those resorting to criminal acts.
According to the Metropolitan Police, 24 individuals were arrested, and 26 officers sustained injuries, including four severe cases. Charges against the arrested individuals ranged from affray and violent disorder to assault and criminal damage.
