A woman accused of leaving the scene of a deadly accident near Fredericton had her court appearance delayed by three weeks. Vanessa Ricketson, 27, faces charges related to the death of a 19-year-old man from Norton. She was supposed to choose a trial mode at Fredericton provincial court but was absent on the scheduled day.
Allegations state that she drove away after hitting the man, who had stopped on the side of the Trans-Canada Highway near Oromocto to change a tire. During the court session, defense attorney Shane Hill, representing Emily Cochrane, requested a postponement to allow for evidence disclosure. The new court date was set for September 1 by Judge Lyne Raymond.
Although the victim remains unnamed, authorities confirmed his safety precautions, including pulling far off the highway, wearing a reflective vest, and activating the vehicle’s flashers. The police did not confirm if Ricketson was the individual of interest named two days after the March 19 collision. Ricketson faced charges nearly four months post-incident and is not currently in police custody.
