A father expressed anger towards easyJet, claiming the airline left his family stranded in the wrong country and forced them to spend the night on uncomfortable airport floors. Darren Rainey, a 41-year-old groundworker from Hitchin, Hertfordshire, embarked on a trip from Luton Airport to Crete on August 13. However, their journey was disrupted when their flight made an emergency landing in Croatia, leading to an unexpected overnight delay.
Rainey recounted how easyJet failed to provide overnight accommodation for his family at Split Airport, leaving them clueless about their replacement flight’s schedule. Frustrated by the lack of assistance, Rainey and his family spent the night at the airport, with him staying awake to ensure their safety while they tried to rest.
Despite Rainey’s complaints, easyJet initially refused to compensate them for the inconvenience caused by the emergency landing. It was only after media intervention that the airline offered to refund their overnight stay in Croatia.
Reflecting on the distressing experience, Rainey criticized easyJet for their handling of the situation, emphasizing the impact it had on their holiday. The family eventually departed Croatia for Crete the next day, arriving significantly later than planned and feeling disheartened by the ordeal.
Rainey’s wife also lodged a complaint with easyJet regarding the delay but was met with a refusal for a refund or compensation. Expressing disappointment and frustration, Rainey highlighted the importance of fair treatment and proper assistance, especially when traveling with children.
In response, an Easyjet holidays spokesperson expressed regret over the situation, explaining that the flight diversion was necessary due to a crew member’s medical emergency. The spokesperson acknowledged the challenges in securing overnight accommodations in Split and assured that they were working with Rainey to address the issue, offering a refund for the disrupted night and a goodwill gesture.
