“Fire Damages Public Housing Project Materials in Naujaat”

A recent fire in Naujaat, Nunavut, has caused damage to construction materials designated for a public housing project in the area. The Nunavut Housing Corporation (NHC) is currently assessing the impact on the project timeline following the incident.

The fire occurred near the waterfront of the hamlet on Wednesday night, prompting an immediate response from the local fire department, according to Naujaat’s senior administrative officer, Chantal Pelletier. The construction materials were earmarked for an eight-unit public housing initiative, with officials now awaiting the fire chief’s report to determine the extent of the damage.

The NHC spokesperson mentioned that they are collaborating with the project contractor and local authorities to evaluate the situation. The completion target for the eight-plex project is set for June 2027, but the spokesperson emphasized that it is premature to ascertain how the fire will impact this timeline.

On the other hand, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has not disclosed any details regarding the cause of the fire or whether an investigation is underway, as stated by an RCMP spokesperson via email.
