Brecel, who has been sporadically participating in tournaments this season, cited health concerns as the reason for his intermittent presence. Despite making a comeback at the English Open and reaching the quarter-finals, it was his first appearance since the World Championship in April, where he had withdrawn from qualifying for the Saudi Arabia Masters and skipped the Wuhan Open.
Contrary to speculation about mental health issues, Brecel clarified that his hiatus was not related to his psychological well-being. Instead, he emphasized that the challenges stemmed from physical ailments that have eluded diagnosis despite numerous doctor visits. The 30-year-old expressed gratitude for being able to return to the game but acknowledged ongoing uncertainties regarding his health, with further medical investigations pending.
Reflecting on his past success in 2023 when he claimed the World Championship title, Brecel’s current ranking has plummeted to 41st globally due to his health setbacks. While the prospect of dropping out of the top 64 and entering Q School looms, Brecel remains focused on participating in additional tournaments to regain lost ranking points.
