Virgin Media O2 users are being warned about a new fraudulent email circulating in the UK. The email is targeting individuals affected by the closure of O2’s outdated 3G mobile platform, urging them to upgrade their SIM cards. Although most customers are not impacted by the transition to 4G and 5G services, scammers are taking advantage of the situation.
The deceptive email, appearing to be from Virgin Media O2, prompts recipients to switch to a new 5G SIM card for a supposed faster and stronger network. The company emphasizes that these emails are not legitimate and should be deleted immediately without clicking any links or responding. Users who receive such emails are encouraged to report them by forwarding to phishing@virginmediao2.co.uk.
This phishing scam aims to trick individuals into divulging sensitive information by impersonating trusted organizations. Scammers may even send a fake SIM card through courier services and request access using a PIN. The email also includes instructions to log in to the O2 app with a provided password and a “Contact Us” button that could connect victims with fraudsters.
If successful, scammers could gain unauthorized access to personal accounts, leading to potential identity theft and financial harm. To stay safe, users are advised to verify the authenticity of emails from service providers by contacting the company directly through official channels and seeking advice from trusted sources before taking any action.
