A leading choice for TV viewing in the UK is between Freeview and Sky, both popular for different reasons. Freeview provides free content, while Sky offers premium channels and exclusive sports coverage. However, a new player in the market, Freely, is gaining attention as an innovative alternative. Launched recently, Freely utilizes broadband instead of traditional aerial or dish setups to deliver content to televisions. This approach is similar to Sky’s Glass TVs, which also rely on internet connectivity.
Freely is integrated into many new TV models, eliminating the need for external set-top boxes or dongles. In an enticing development, Channel 4 has unveiled three new streaming channels exclusively on Freely, namely 4Reality, 4Homes, and 4Life, marking Channel 4’s debut in the UK streaming platform landscape.
Viewers can access 4Reality on channel 67, 4Homes on channel 68, and 4Life on channel 82. With the shift towards streaming services, Freely, owned by Everyone TV, could potentially challenge Freeview in the future. Grace Boswood, Channel 4’s Director of Technology & Distribution, expressed pride in enhancing Freely’s offerings, highlighting the network’s evolution into a leading public service streamer.
Jonathan Thompson, CEO of Everyone TV, emphasized the partnership with Channel 4 to provide high-quality streamed content through Freely, offering exclusive channels like 4Reality, 4Homes, and 4Life. These channels showcase a diverse range of content not available elsewhere, enriching viewers’ choices.
The new channels offer unique programming: 4Reality features reality TV favorites, 4Homes focuses on property-related shows, and 4Life explores real-life stories and experiences, including travel, food, and animals. As streaming services continue to evolve, Freely aims to offer a wide range of content without costly subscriptions, catering to the changing viewing habits of audiences.
